Your final guide to build a purposeful, joyful life

Planning

Here is a way to virtually guarantee you never fail with your plans ever again

Discover…
  • How to make a phenomenal plan for your life which you will stick with long-term
  • How to ensure you follow through, become phenomenal, and achieve all your goals

If any of these 7 reasons resonate, you might need this

  • You’ve planned and failed many times before
  • You always get optimistic but you’re still stuck where you don’t want to be
  • You feel hopeless, a loser
  • You’re stuck in a life doing things and working jobs you don’t want to do
  • You don’t have the freedom to live the life you want
  • You have so much more to give
  • You are fucking fed up with not being the person you know you’re capable of being
I know what it’s like. I went from crap jobs, stuck living with my parents to…
  • Travelling the world having incredible adventures
  • Making lifelong friends
  • Dating incredible people
  • Doing impactful, purposeful work
  • Pushing my limits, growing stronger and stronger in all the domains I care about

Finally build a life of purpose and enjoyment, so you can live the life you’re capable of

7 benefits this approach unlocks

  1. A plan that gets you to a great place
  2. A metaplan to ensure you execute the plan (plan for the plan!)
  3. Enjoyment of the process
  4. Feeling at ease as you progress
  5. Measurable, consistent progress
  6. Movement towards a joyous purposeful life
  7. Mastery
1. A plan that gets you to a great place
  • Without the right plan you end up going the wrong way for months then back to square one
  • Or, you have the right destination in mind but no idea how to get there
2. A metaplan: to ensure you execute the plan (a plan for the plan!)
  • A good plan is useless unless you DO IT
  • Motivation alone is never enough
  • Build the mechanisms and support systems to keep moving forward
3. Enjoyment of the process
  • If the journey’s not fulfilling, it’s pointless
  • With a plan aligned with your values plus confidence you can succeed, the journey is fun!
4. Feeling at ease as you progress
  • Stress and grind is going to be inevitable at times, but with a plan and structure, you can have periods of ease and excitement too
5. Measurable, consistent progress
  • With this system you can avoid biases and know for sure if you’re heading the right way at the right speed.
6. Movement towards a satisfying purposeful life
  • Moving “forward” is only good if it’s forward to a place you’ll feel happy and purposeful.
7. Mastery
  • Stop jumping from thing to thing! Double down.
  • With consistent work and progress, you will become the best in your unique area.

Step-by-step plan to success

Through good planning and an excellent support setup, you will achieve your goals. Don’t jump into the wrong thing only to quit after 2 months — spend more time planning so you don’t U-turn.
The 5 steps
  • Choose
  • Plan
  • Meta-Plan
  • Set Up
  • Begin
Choose
Spend a few hours (or days) on deep life reflection to set up the rest of your life! Brainstorm loads of options (think outside the box) Assess your options
  • Job satisfaction metrics
  • Impact metrics
  • Your comparative advantage in the role
  • Your personal fit for it
Do some goal factoring
  • What are the subcomponents you want from your job?
  • Is it possible that you can get some from work and some from other parts of life? If so, what other options does that create?
Make a final short list of 3-5 jobs Do deeper research into these and decide a path to commit to
Plan
Set a target first point of success (e.g. $x/month, a job do X with Z company) Make step-by-step design to get there
  • Start with the end goal and work backwards
  • As you get closer to now, you can become more detailed
    • Free online project management apps like Asana can be great, but DO NOT get stuck in planning as an excuse to not take action!
Meta-plan
Design how to stick to the plan using some frameworks James Clear’s Atomic Habits
  • Optimize the cue, craving, response, and reward
Cal Newport’s Digital Minimalism
  • Consciously design your phone and tech use
    • How much time are you spending on your phone, which you’d rather spend on building and living an awesome life?
    • Experiment with different approaches
Ray Dalio’s Principles

1. Have clear goals

2. Identify and don’t tolerate problems

3. Accurately diagnose your problems (root cause)

4. Design a plan of specific tasks to get around your problems

5. Do the tasks (implement the plan)

Murphyjitsu
  • Murphy’s Law — “whatever can go wrong, will go wrong”
  • Imagine the future plan has failed. Why did it fail?
  • Design a solution to that problem
  • Imagine again. If there’s another point of failure, design a solution.
  • Repeat and repeat until you feel confident you’ve designed solutions to all possible problems
Accountability
  • Find a “buddy” to call for an hour or so each month. Check each other’s plans, give each other feedback. If you don’t have a friend for it, find one online
  • Find a group online for daily accountability check-ins. Set main goals. Report on the previous day.
  • Cowork (either online or in person)
Inspiration
  • Create a vision board
  • Gamify — Track daily metrics (target max days in a row)
Carrot and stick (rewards and costs)
  • Get yourself small and big rewards for task completion or “punishments” if that works better for you. Or a combo of both.
    • Beeminder works well if you prefer the stick to the carrot

Set Up
Tracking doc (paper and digital) Deadlines Daily-, weekly-, monthly self-review
    • Redesign plan only when necessary, but be open to it
Begin!
This is it. You put in the foundations. Now it’s time: take the first step. Optimize for the start line: the tiniest action. From there you’ll inevitably start rolling Each day
  • Before bed, make a rough plan for the next day
  • Know what the most important thing to work on is. Do that before you do anything else.
